I’m Dr. Tzachi Fried, a clinical psychologist working with adolescents and adults who want not only relief from acute distress, but also to understand and change the patterns that keep their problems going.
People come to therapy for many different reasons. Sometimes something is clearly wrong: anxiety, depression, conflict, self-harm, or emotions that feel difficult to manage. Other times, life may look fine from the outside, but you keep finding yourself caught in the same patterns- overthinking, withdrawing, losing control, trying too hard to get things right, or understanding yourself without actually being able to change.
You may be seeking therapy because:
You understand yourself, but nothing seems to change.
You may already know why you react the way you do, yet still find yourself repeating the same patterns.
You spend a lot of time in your head.
Overthinking, second-guessing, worrying, replaying conversations, or trying to make the “right” decision can make ordinary life exhausting.
You hold yourself to very high standards.
Perfectionism can look productive from the outside while creating anxiety, rigidity, self-criticism, or a sense that you can never quite relax.
Your emotions sometimes take over.
Anger, anxiety, shame, desperation, or other intense emotions can lead to behaviors you later regret or make relationships feel unstable.
Relationships keep getting complicated in familiar ways.
You may repeatedly feel misunderstood, rejected, disappointed, trapped, or unable to get close to people in the way you want.
You’re struggling just to keep going.
For some people, therapy includes working with suicidal thoughts, self-harm, or periods when life feels difficult to tolerate.
You’ve been in therapy before, but still feel stuck.
You may understand yourself well, have learned useful skills, or know many of the “right” things to do, yet find that the same difficulties keep returning.
What therapy with me is like
I believe therapy should lead somewhere. That doesn’t mean rushing the work or setting an arbitrary deadline. It means keeping sight of what we are trying to change, whether therapy is actually helping, and how the work is contributing to a life that feels better and more worth living.
My style as a therapist is active, collaborative, and curious. I’ll ask questions, share what I’m noticing, offer my perspective, and sometimes challenge you. But I don’t assume that my understanding is automatically the right one. If I misunderstand you or you disagree with me, I want to know. Figuring out where I have it wrong can be just as important as figuring out where I have it right.
Different people get stuck in different ways, so I don’t approach every person with the same treatment. Therapy may be more structured or more exploratory, focused on practical changes or on understanding deeper patterns. Depending on what you are struggling with, I may draw from approaches including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), schema therapy, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. The goal is not to fit you into a particular model, but to understand what is actually happening and use the approaches that are most useful.
Therapy may involve looking closely at situations that keep going wrong, identifying patterns as they happen, practicing new ways of responding, or paying attention to what happens between us in therapy itself. At times I may suggest exercises or things to try between sessions. At other times, the most useful work may be slowing down enough to understand something that has been difficult to see clearly.
